UNITED KINGDOM, August 2014 – The Fatwa issued by Sheik Usama Hasan, a former imam from east London, and got support from six senior Islamic scholars called the Islamic State (IS) “heretical” and “an oppressive and tyrannical group”. The fatwa prohibits would-be jihadists from joining ISIL/ISIS and opposes the promotion of the “poisonous ideology” in the UK.
U.S.A., August 2014 – Muslim leaders gathered on the steps of Dearborn City Hall (Dearborn, Michigan) strongly condemned the Islamic State or ISIS, saying the militant group in Iraq and Syria doesn’t represent Islam or Muslims. ISIS members are “crazy criminals who are abusing our religion,” said Imam Mohammed Elahi of the Islamic House of Wisdom in Dearborn Heights. “You’re a bunch of gangsters … you’re not Islamic.”
INDIA, August 2014 – Shaikh Abu Bakr Ahmad All India Sunni Jam-e-yyathul Ulema said favoring the extremist organizations was antithetical to the Islamic Sharia. Supporting their (ISIS) activities through any means is forbidden. Their ruthless activities against people in Iraq and Syria are not meant for helping Muslims but to defame Islam. Their anti-Western interpretation of Islam is only aimed to serve their political agendas in the wider Muslim world.
EGYPT, August 2014 – Egypt’s Grand Mufti Shawqi Allam had condemned ISIS for atrocities they have been perpetrating in the countries and their violation of principles and teachings preached by Islam. He said the terrorists are members of a corrupt and extremist organization, describing the group as a danger to Islam as a whole.
EGYPT, August 2014 – The top Islamic authority Dar Al-Ifta in Egypt has launched an online campaign to correct the image of Islam distorted by the crimes committed by the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS), urging media sources to avoid calling the militant group as “Islamic State”.
SAUDI ARABIA, September 2014 – The Saudi grand mufti Sheikh Abdul-Aziz Al al-Sheikh and religious council declared ISIS terrorism a “heinous crime” under Sharia. “Terrorism has nothing to do with Islam, which is innocent of this deviant ideology … [terrorism] is nothing more than corruption and criminality rejected by Islamic sharia law and common sense.” Any Muslim who thinks that jihad (which means “struggle”) means joining a terrorist group “is ignorant and has gone astray”.
